The Jeep Portsea Polo is the start of Melbourne’s social year. In fact, it has now become a more relaxed version of the Spring Racing Carnival and a playground for the fashionable society. I was very excited to be invited as an Official Fashion Blogger of the Portsea Polo 2016. It was an amazing event to work on. Aside from working on my fashion label https://vezzanocouture.com.au, and away from my design table, it was an extremely satisfying challenge to interview the fashionistas and off-course the celebrities. Together with Ali Johnston, my assistant photographer (who did a wonderful job despite her arm being in a cast) and my marketing assistant, Anastasia S Cremasco, we are committed to delivering the latest fashion news from Melbourne. Before I knew it, I was invited to the PERONI, MICROFLITE & JEEP Marquees. I guess the fashion blogging went out of control, as all the fashionistas wanted to participate in being interviewed at all the marquees! At one moment, it felt like I was hosting the ‘Polo Fashions on the Field’. It was delightful to see so many fashionistas snapping away, taking selfies with their smartphones.
The weather couldn’t have been better for the polo summer fashions. “White” ruled over any other colour and was a favourite choice on the day for the ladies to offset against the blue skies. The women wore white with beige or tan accessories. There were many variations of white long/short jumpsuits or long floaty dresses or tops with long skirts. Caftans were also noticed amongst the crowd. Shoulder leather bags, headwear and trusty wedges were a favourite choice. (Forget stilettos – heels could sink in the grass. Not a good look!)
I also liked the colour palette which the gentlemen wore, various hues of tan, white and blue. The men equally looked as stylish as the women. I was particularly impressed with the men’s fashions. Their choice of style was of high-end luxury labels such as Burberry, Gucci, Armani, Rolex, Loui Vuitton, Vivienne Westwood, etc. I admired their pairing of a blazer, linen or cotton shirt, short – trouser with loafers. It would have been great to host ‘The Best Dressed Man at the Polo Competition’. I say, well done to the gentlemen who took extra care and attention to detail in their attire.
This year’s event attracted the who’s who of Australia’s social scene and some of Melbourne’s fine fashionistas who wore the “Polo-Look” to its finest form, but the best thing everyone wore, was their friendly smiles. The marquees were extravagantly decorated and I think that the Jeep Portsea Polo is definitely becoming a world-class event with some exciting polo matches as well.
This is why I love the city of Melbourne, as it continues to offer so much – not only on the forefront of fashion but also on food and wine. Overall, the day’s event was exciting and we are honoured to have brought you the latest polo fashions from Portsea Polo 2016.
